In 1999 the Seattle Mariners ballpark opened in mid-season. Safeco Field was one of the first to embrace public artwork as part of the infrastructure of the ballpark. My artwork, The Positions on the Field, hangs off the roof trusses on the upper concourse. Portraits of nine players from the history of the game were fabricated in porcelain enamel on steel from watercolor originals. Included are the Pacific Coast League, Japanese baseball, the Negro Leagues, the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, and of course the Bigs.
